Vee- Bee Consistometer

The Vee-Bee Consistometer is a mechanical laboratory instrument used to determine the workability, consistency, and dynamic compactability of low-to-very-low-slump concrete mixes. Extending beyond the static slump test, this dynamic method measures the remolding effort required to transform a freshly compacted conical slump of concrete into a flat, cylindrical mass under standardized mechanical vibration, making it indispensable for evaluating stiff, roller-compacted, and pavement-grade concrete mixes.

The apparatus consists of a standardized slump cone seated inside a cylindrical metal pot mounted directly atop an electric vibrating table operating at a fixed amplitude and frequency. A transparent acrylic/plastic disc attached to a swiveling graduated rod is brought into contact with the top of the concrete specimen after the slump cone is stripped; as vibration proceeds, the operator tracks the subsidence until the bottom surface of the transparent plate is fully coated with cement grout, recording the elapsed duration directly as workability in Vee-Bee seconds (degrees).
